Product Description
Polaroid Auto Focus DG Macro Extension Tubes are designed to enable your lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance, this way you can magnify your subject. The tubes are very useful for macro photography. The extension tubes have no glass. The Extension tubes are attached between the camera body and the lens. This set consists of three tubes, the tubes may be used singly or in combination with one another for a total of seven different lengths. Each tube is provided with a mounting bayonet and electrical contacts which match those of your particular camera choice. The contacts allow the camera's lens to respond to its automatic exposure system giving you a perfect exposure each time.

The fit of the tubes is spot on, no play in the connections, easy to release and certainly NOT giving any of the horror stories you hear about with cheap imports that you can't get off your camera.Regarding the complaints other people make about similar tubes from a variety of manufacturers: The electrical connections on these ones work perfectly, but your auto focus needs light in order to focus and this is where it gets tricky. When you get this close to a subject you're often working in near darkness or your own shadow (with a flash gun in my case) and so there is no normal SLR auto focus in the world that can cope with this. It is not a fault of the tubes, it's just the way auto focus works. You'll find quite quickly you find where the focal point is and leave the focus fixed, or are just doing very slight adjustment by hand, it's not hard (I'd never done manual focus before this, and I managed... Consequently the camera reported 'No Lens Attached'. The 36mm tube did operate as described, retaining auto exposure and focusing with the Nikon 18-55mm f3.5G VR lens. The 12 and 20mm tubes also performed correctly provided they were attached to the 36mm tube first! (i.e. with the 36mm tube between the camera and smaller tubes). This lead me to try both smaller tubes again just to 'double check'. Upon fitting and refitting a few times, they finally wore in sufficiently to function normally. All now work 100% and I'm happy with them. Perhaps the fact that both the camera and tubes were new meant that both needed to wear in slightly.
